In the present day social environment, particularly for the youth, instead of developmental process to take place, there are many pitfalls to fall in to and get ruined. The three probable and possible pitfalls are illustrated below.
1. SMOKING
Though the evil effects are known and are printed on the cigarette packets as statutory warnings, it is brushed aside by many people and they fall into this evil habit. It has been proven that cigarettes contain many poisonous materials.
It has also been proven that smoking leads to many diseases like Asthma, Cancer and even Heart attack. It can be compared to a double edged knife – with unnecessary money that is wasted in the form of smoke and the other, spoiling your precious health.
If we analyse how anybody is inducted into this evil habit, it is clear that no one so far has started this on his own; but due to the bad company of people.
Youth is a very delicate age in which one will easily get attracted by so called friends. If the friends love habits like smoking, people will be tempted.
If you do not resist temptation and do not keep yourself away from such bad company, the smoking sooner or later will become a habit for you.
Caution number 1 in life:
DO NOT MAKE FRIENDSHIP WITH PEOPLE WHO SMOKE.
2. ALCOHOL
This is yet another fall to a greater depth in life. People know that this is bad for health. The major risk for a drinker who claims that he takes only occasionally will soon become an alcoholic- to put it in a stronger term, a drunkard.
It is common now for 20 per cent of all male admissions world over, to general medical wards to be related to the use of alcohol. Many people still believe that the only organ likely to be damaged is liver. Sadly, that is not true. People who drink heavily risk developing cancer, stomach ulcers and muscle wastage and also liver diseases.
This habit generally starts at parties. Many people without knowing that it is a wet party go to a party and are in a great predicament. Such people will be asked to just give company.
The friends usually advise to just take a few sips. Though people never find taste in these drinks, they find pleasure in the short lived excitement. Gradually such people will attend more wet parties and this is how all the malady starts. …contd in Aalumai Sirpi Magazine.
