Hello Readers,
Each article I write here is a reflection of the books that have inspired me. Today, I would like to share a beautiful perspective about human beings through the lens of Halley’s Comet from the book “Cosmic Wonder” by Ashley Benham. This Halley’s Comet is an ancient traveller of the cosmos that visits the Earth once every 76 years. Every time it passes the Earth on its orbit, it catches snapshots of how the planet and the Earthlings that live there change over time. With each visit, the comet especially notes how humans, with their mixture of curiosity and creativity, have transformed the planet—in good ways and bad.
The comet witnesses war and pollution but also humans’ boundless ability to love. When it first visited the blue planet, it had never seen such a place—everywhere it saw life. Many Earthlings were big, most were small. Some moved quickly over the ground, soared above the sky, or swam beneath the waves. Some walked on four legs, some on two legs, and a few had no legs at all. This time, when the comet visits, it is in awe of the nature of this special blue planet in the universe.
On its next visit, it saw one creature that began to live differently—humans. Among all other living beings, this two-legged curious inhabitant of Earth lived very differently from its ancestors. They are changing and evolving with every visit, learning new things each time. Over the years, only the comet noticed the humans. But this time, the humans began to track the celestial object and document mesmerizing facts about the stars and space. For the first time, humans noticed the comet and understood it would come once every 76 years…
