Born to taste Success – 20

You know what a sculpture is. You also know a sculptor. A sculptor creates sculpture.

Look at the picture of a statue, a classical sculpture.

Can you become both the sculptor and sculpture? Yes you can very much become. Assume that you are the statue and you are the sculptor. You can create a  Fantastic sculpture or Excellent sculpture or Very good/ good sculpture or Average sculpture or Shabby and awkward sculpture

Please understand that everything is in your hands.

For this you must have goal after goal and go on achieving each goal.

If you make this a journey in your life you can make a fantastic sculpture of yourself.

How to know whether you have any goal or goals in your life? Here is a small exercise.

Given below are 10 statements. Round off the numbers against the statements which are true for you.

  1. You normally don’t think of your future.
  2. Having bad habits like smoking and or drinking.
  3. Wandering and longing to have sight of the opposite sex.
  4. Getting up in the morning after sunrise.
  5. Sleeping for more than 8 hours a day.
  6. Wandering aimlessly with friends.
  7. Gossiping interestingly.
  8. Watching TV for more than 2 hours a day.
  9. Often feeling bored and fatigued.
  10. Postponing things without any reason.

If you have rounded off 3 or more, it is sure that you don’t have goals in your life and you are not interested in yourself.

A goal is a definite aim which when accomplished will give you a sense of satisfaction and happiness and also will give further drive for more goals and accomplishments. If in a foot ball ground, when two teams are playing, suddenly if somebody removes the goal posts on either side, will they play? Similarly, only when there is a goal, there is some effort, achievement and thrill in life. In every goal, there are chances to achieve success or meet with failure. So setting goals is an important process in life. Each goal you set should conform to the following.

*    Your strengths (your existing abilities and capabilities)

*    It must be measurable

*    It must be achievable

*    It must be realistic

*    It should be time specific (in a set time frame)

       You should follow the 4M goals throughout your life. They are:

Micro goals : These are daily sub goals to achieve the big goals.

Mini goals : These are for medium range sub goals say a semester or year

Medium goals : These are for a couple of years.

Mega goals:  These are long term goals for 5 to 10 years.

Many people set goals which are easily achievable. They achieve the goals. But they underestimate themselves. There are also people who set unrealistic goals which are not achievable by them. They obviously don’t achieve and fail miserably. So, one should set goals which are realistic (related to their strengths) and achievable if efforts are put forth and put the needed efforts timely with focus and determination.

 Life Diary: Described below is a very important tool to set your goals, monitor and succeed in life.

 Purchase a 200 page blank quality note book. This is not a routine diary sold for every year. This is going to be for your lifetime. Hence it should be well bound with plastic cover. The paper should be of very good quality. In this, you will write only your goals and plans and periodically review them watching your progress.

Only when you write the goals you can convert them into achievements. Otherwise they may die down in your mind itself. Mere thinking may not help much. When you dream and think something, put it in writing in this Life Diary.  
