Hello Readers,

In this article, I present you all with two different stories from the same day of a person, which may feel very familiar to many of you. Meet Nilan, the protagonist of our story. He is someone just like many of us, living in the city and often caught in the tug-of-war between his digital devices and the world around him. We will explore contrasting experiences in Nilan’s life: one day consumed by the buzz and notifications of his smartphone, and another filled with the quiet, joyful moments of reconnecting with life beyond the screen.

Day One: Connected
Yet Disconnected

Nilan’s day starts not with the sunrise but with the harsh glow of his smartphone screen. Turning off the alarm with half-opened eyes, he fully opens them to a pile of notifications—emails, social media updates, and news—all before his feet even touch the floor. The device follows him everywhere, even to the bathroom, where his morning routine is accompanied by YouTube videos and news snippets. While scrolling through his feed, Nilan becomes so absorbed that he eats breakfast mechanically, smiling at random content from his feeds, and nearly misses his bus. He spends his commute buried in his phone, unawareof the world around him.

At work, every ping and buzz from Nilan’s smartphone demands his immediate attention, fragmenting his concentration. Each notification pulls him further away from his tasks, reducing his productivity and increasing his stress levels.
